【内容简介】
Sean Archer（约翰屈伏塔饰）是FBI的高级探员，二十多年的警探生涯办过无数大案子，可是他终其一生都在追捕奸诈狡猾的恐怖份子凯斯特洛伊（尼可拉斯凯吉饰），无恶不作的凯斯特洛伊，也正是杀害Sean Archer独生子的凶手，让Sean Archer发誓要亲自抓他到案入网。
终于在多次线人的密告之下，Sean Archer终于有机会亲自逮捕他到案，趁著凯斯特洛伊与他弟弟搭机逃亡之前，将他们绳之以法，在一阵枪战之后，凯斯特洛伊因负伤过重而昏迷不醒，Sean Archer原本以为一切都结束了，没想到却从凯斯特弟弟的口中得知，凯斯特洛伊在被捕之前，已经将威力强大的炸弹放置在某个人潮众多的公共场合，无论警方如何逼问，凯斯特的弟弟宁死都不愿说出炸弹地点。就在束手无索之际，Sean Archer的长官提出 "变脸"计划，亦即透过高科技的整容手术，将Sean Archer与凯斯特洛伊的容貌对换，再让假扮成凯斯特洛伊的Sean Archer进监狱中，让凯斯特的弟弟以为哥哥复活，并说出炸弹地点。
多年来Sean Archer与凯斯特洛伊的对立，已使得亚瑟警官的妻子与女儿生活在恐怖之中，从事医生一职的亚瑟太太（琼艾伦饰）虽不知Sean Archer的新任务为何，但仍不得不同意。这项"变脸"计划为FBI的高度机密，只有主事的医师与三位FBI长官知情，刚开始一切都顺利进行，假扮的凯斯特洛伊（Sean Archer）混入监狱之中，但令人没想到的是，原本昏迷中的凯斯特洛伊（已换成Sean Archer脸孔）却清醒过来，狡猾的他决定将计就计，第一步先将杀掉唯一能从事此项技术的医师与知情的FBI探员，假冒FBI高级探员的身份回到工作岗任，滥用职权释放其弟，现身在凯斯特洛伊（真正的Sean Archer）的面前，最令人害怕的是，他光明正大的回到Sean Archer家中，与不知情的Sean Archer太太过著正常夫妻生活，就这样一代枭雄变英雄，好人变坏人…。
顶著斯特洛伊脸孔的 Sean Archer在走投无路之际，只能选择逃狱，知情的高阶警官已不在人世，以前的属下见到他要杀他，女儿不认他，连亲密的太太都不高定究竟谁才是坏人，谁才是真正的丈夫，唯一接受他的是凯斯特洛伊的女友及兄长，绝望的Sean Archer要如何才能向世人证明他才是真正的Sean Archer呢？
